DOT FAQ

DOT inspection questions

What is included in an annual DOT inspection?

A full 49 CFR Part 396 Appendix A inspection: brakes and air system, steering, suspension, frame, tires and wheels, lighting, coupling devices, fuel and exhaust systems, windshield and wipers, emergency equipment, and the inspection sticker and report for your records.

How often does a commercial truck need a DOT inspection?

Every commercial motor vehicle needs a periodic (annual) inspection at least once every 12 months, plus the driver’s daily pre-trip and post-trip checks. We track due dates for fleet customers.

Can Fleet Doc inspect our whole fleet on-site?

Yes. We come to your yard and inspect the fleet in one visit with fleet pricing, so trucks do not lose a day at a shop. Failed items can usually be repaired on the spot.

What records do fleet customers get?

Every inspection and repair is logged per vehicle with dates, findings and work performed โ€” the documentation you need for DOT audits, insurance and resale.
