Roadside truck repair that comes to you

When a semi, box truck or trailer goes down on the interstate, every hour on the shoulder costs you a load, a delivery window and a driver’s clock. Fleet Doc’s roadside truck repair and 24 hour truck breakdown service exists to shorten that hour. You call, dispatch takes your location and symptoms, and a fully stocked service truck rolls from our Charleston base with a heavy-duty diesel mechanic, diagnostic laptop, air tools, jump pack, tire equipment and the common parts that put most breakdowns back on the road without a tow.

We work on Class 6โ€“8 trucks and trailers: Freightliner, Volvo, Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, Mack, Isuzu and Hino, plus reefers, dry vans, flatbeds and liftgate box trucks. Owner-operators, OTR drivers passing through on I-95, and local fleets running Charleston’s port and distribution corridors all get the same emergency truck repair dispatch โ€” one phone number, answered around the clock.

What we fix on the side of the road

  • Air leaks and brakes โ€” brake chambers, air lines, slack adjusters, valves, glad hands; low-air and dragging-brake calls
  • Won’t start / no power โ€” batteries, jump starts, starters, alternators, wiring and grounds
  • Tires โ€” roadside tire replacement with new and used semi and trailer tires, mounting and flat repair on the shoulder
  • Cooling and belts โ€” hoses, belts, tensioners, coolant leaks, fan clutches
  • Check engine, derates and DEF/regen faults โ€” on-truck diagnostics to clear or bypass a derate long enough to get you safely to a shop
  • Fuel and filters โ€” fuel filters, priming, gelling and air-in-fuel problems
  • Lights, electrical and trailer connections โ€” 7-way plugs, ABS lights, marker and brake lights that fail a roadside inspection
  • Liftgates and roll-up doors โ€” hydraulic and electrical liftgate faults on box trucks

Engine-out, transmission and major driveline work can’t be done on a shoulder. If your breakdown needs a shop, we’ll tell you on the phone, get the truck safe and drivable if we can, and point you to the right facility instead of charging you for a roll that won’t fix it.

Where we cover: Charleston, I-26 and the I-95 junction

Drivers know exits, not town names, so here is our coverage the way you’ll describe it to dispatch.

Not on the interstate? We also run US 17, US 52, US 78 and US 176, and we service trucks at the yard in Charleston, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Hanahan, Mt Pleasant and Summerville.

How fast can we get there?

Our service trucks roll from Charleston. Typical drive times once we’re dispatched: Charleston metro and Summerville 30โ€“60 minutes; Ridgeville and Harleyville 45โ€“60 minutes; St. George and the I-26/I-95 junction about an hour; Santee and Orangeburg 60โ€“90 minutes. Dispatch gives you a real ETA on the call, and we’ll update you if traffic on I-26 changes it.

What to tell dispatch when you call

  1. Where you are โ€” highway, direction, and the nearest exit or mile marker (the small green signs). If you’re at a truck stop or weigh station, say which one.
  2. What you’re driving โ€” year, make and model of the tractor and trailer.
  3. What happened โ€” the symptom, any dash lights or fault codes, and whether it happened suddenly or has been building.
  4. Your situation โ€” are you safely off the road, loaded or empty, hazmat, and how you’d like to pay.

Straight pricing, no surprises

Roadside calls are billed as a callout to your location plus labor and parts. After-hours and weekend calls carry an after-hours rate, and we tell you that before we roll, not after. You get an itemized invoice by email, we accept major credit cards, and fleets can set up billing terms. No mystery fees, no tow-and-hold games.

Roadside truck repair FAQ

My truck broke down on I-26. What do I do?

Get as far onto the shoulder as you safely can, set your triangles, and call (854) 205-1972. Tell dispatch your direction and the nearest exit number. If the truck is driveable, a truck stop or wide exit ramp is a safer place to wait and to work than the shoulder.

Can you replace a semi truck tire on the side of the highway?

Yes. Our trucks carry tire tools, and we stock new and used tires in common steer, drive and trailer sizes. We’ll mount and replace on the shoulder when it’s safe, or meet you at the nearest exit or truck stop if it isn’t. See our mobile tire service page for sizes, new and used options and how a tire call works.

Do you come out to Santee, St. George and the I-95 junction?

Yes. The I-26/I-95 junction and the I-95 stretch from St. George up through Santee is one of our busiest corridors. Expect roughly an hour to the junction and 60โ€“90 minutes to Santee from dispatch.

Are you really available at night and on weekends?

Yes. The phone is answered 24/7 and a mechanic is on call every night and weekend. After-hours calls are billed at our after-hours rate, which dispatch will confirm before we roll.

What if it can’t be fixed on the roadside?

Most air, electrical, tire, fuel and cooling problems can be handled where you sit. If it’s an engine, transmission or major driveline failure, we’ll tell you on the phone or on arrival, get the truck safe, and help you get it to a shop rather than run up a bill on the shoulder.

How much does roadside truck repair cost?

It depends on the distance, the time of day and the repair, so we quote the callout and labor rate on the phone before we dispatch. Parts are itemized on the invoice. Compare that to a heavy tow plus shop time and a day of downtime and mobile repair usually comes out ahead.
